EAGLES TAKE HOME OPENER FOR SECOND WIN

The Screaming Eagles took on the St. Joe's Bears to open their home schedule of the 2011 season.  The Eagles came from one set down to earn a 14-25, 25-17, 25-21 and 25-21 win in front of a raucous crowd of nearly 300.

St. Elizabeth clearly felt the nerves in the first set playing in front of such a great crowd.  The team could not keep its attacks or serves in play and gave up easy points to the Bears in losing 14-25.

The second set saw a much more settled CSE team and the perfect passes that were coming out of the backrow from Katie Cooper, Misato Oya and Rachel Hausler made life for setter Amy Cooper very easy as she distributed 9 assists through her hitting options of Katie, Chanice Sears, Subhana Wrights and Kareemah Muhammad.  Of note,  Jannet Chaudry came into the match in the second set as the team continued to try to adjust without injured Jenae Goodson and proceeded to score the second highest service points on the team for the set.  CSE pulled away late and took set two, 25-17.

The third set brought much of the same except that the Bears started fighting for every ball as if it would be their last which made the game tight at times as the Bears kept numerous balls in play that looked like they were headed toward the floor.  The Eagles for their part yielded no aces and relied on the overpowering presence of Subhana Wrights (5 kills, 3 blocks in the set) in the middle to control the match.

The fourth and deciding was error filled on both sides but the team found a way to close the set and match out.  Late in the set, Subhana Wrights came in and quickly took control of the set with a block and a kill.  Those two points sparked the team and behind the steady and accurate passing of Rachel Hausler,  Subhana Wrights was allowed to continue pressuring the Bear defense which couldn't generate offensive opportunities.  Eagles took the set and match 25-21 for their second win of the season!
