SAINT ELIZABETH UPEND HOSTS AT CONFERENCE MATCH

The Screaming Eagles battled a resillient Suny Cobleskill squad in the 3rd and final conference matchup of the weekend.

CSE looked to get back to its winning ways and pick up their 2nd win of the conference weekend.  The Eagles did not disappoint as the athletes came together in a complete effort to tame the Fighting Tigers.  In set 1, the story was Katie Cooper who hit for a team leading 4 kills and a team leading 4 aces to pace an 8 kill, 7 ace attack that finished off the Tigers 25-19.

Set 2 began rather differently, however.  The Tigers jumped out to a 7-3 lead fueled by very efficient attacks.  Saint Elizabeth kept fighting to stay close,  cutting the lead down to 2 numerous times (6-8, 9-11, 13-15, 15-17 and 16-18).  With the Tigers leading 18-16,  a kill by Amy Cooper and an ace by Rachel Hausler had the Eagles knotted up at 18.  With the score tied at 19, Subhana Wrights and Kareemah Muhammed pounded down a kill and Katie Cooper added 2 aces to push the lead to 23-19.  But the Tigers wouldn't give up and Cobleskill tied up the score at 24 behind some crucial Eagle hitting errors late.  A Subhana Wrights kill gave the match point back to CSE but the Tigers fought back to tie it at 25.  Kareemah Muhammad then got into the mix, nailing down a crucial kill to give the ball back to CSE at 26-25.  But the Eagles could not convert as another service error gave the Tigers a 26-26 tie.  A Tiger error later gave the ball back to Amy Cooper who did not hesitate in the moment and scored an ace to close out the set 28-26.  Kareemah Muhammad led the team with 5 kills in the set while Katie Cooper and Rachel Hausler combined for 20 digs to keep the Eagle offense rolling.

After trailing early in the 3rd set 0-2, the Eagles went on an 8-2 run sparked by Rachel Hausler and Amy Cooper's serving to take control of the set 8-4.  At 10-6, Saint Elizabeth rattled off 5 straight points, 3 of them through kills by Kareemah Muhammad, to extend their lead to 15-6.  The Eagle offense continued to roll as the Eagles would not allow the Tigers to get any momentum in the set.  With the score 23-14,  CSE's passing and defense allowed Subhana Wrights and Kareemah Muhammad to pound out the last 2 kills as the team finished off Cobleskill in 3 sets (25-19, 28-26, 25-16).  Kareemah Muhammad, Amy Cooper and Subhana Wrights led the offense with a combined 10 kills and Rachel Hausler added 3 aces and a perfect 7 serve reception effort to lead the Eagles to victory in the 3rd set.

Katie Cooper led the team with 10 kills, 12 digs and 6 aces.  Kareemah Muhammad and Subhana Wrights both chipped in 9 kills each.  Wrights also added 3 blocks to the cause.  Amy Cooper lead a balanced offense with 26 assists and added 4 aces and 6 digs. Rachel Hausler hammered home 5 aces and dug up 8 balls in the victory.

Next up for the Eagles are the Nittany Lions of Penn State-Abbington on Wednesday, September 26 at 7pm at St. Joe's Hall in a NEAC conference matchup.  The Eagles will be looking to improve their overall record to 11W-3L and 3W-1L in the NEAC.
