The Eagles took a trip to the eastern end of Long Island to face a tough 4-0 Old Westbury College team that had just won their own tournament this past weekend. CSE was still missing their Libero and added Kean Tournament’s All-Tournament Selection Luisa Solano to the “not available” list due to an ankle injury suffered in the last match of the Cougar Classic.
The Eagles were sluggish and lacked confidence in the first set as numerous passing errors resulted in a relatively easy 25-5 Set 1 victory for Old Westbury College. Set #2 saw a much more spirited and competitive Eagles squad although Old Westbury’s double quick offense gave the Eagles young players a lot of trouble on defense. Old Westbury wore down the Eagles midway through the set and pulled away for a comfortable 25-15 Set #2 victory. Although the Eagles made some adjustments and cranked up their offense in Set #3, the overpowering offense and serving of Old Westbury was too much on this day for the Eagles. Set #3 and the victory went to Old Westbury 25-11.
Captain Chanice Sears and Kareemah Muhammad combined for 15 of the team’s 26 digs in the loss while Captain Samantha St. Germain led the offense with 3 kills and adding 4 digs of her own. Sam also tallied a solo block in the match. Freshman MB Jannet Chaudry also chipped in 3 kills in the match.
The squad goes to St. Joe’s in Brooklyn for a tri-match versus St. Joe’s and Keystone this upcoming Saturday, September 18.
